Smile Entertainment is a Copenhagen and Helsinki based distribution and production company, which has since 1998 been involved in:

• Acquisition and distribution of international films in Scandinavia
• Production, co-production, financing and international distribution of new feature films

Chief Executive and principal shareholder of Smile Entertainment is Mr. Timo T. Lahtinen, who has over twenty years experience in the film industry.
Smile is affiliated with Dan Film A/S of Denmark (www.danfilm.com).

SCANDINAVIAN DISTRIBUTOR

As a Scandinavian distributor, Smile concentrates on story driven films for sophisticated cinema audience. Smile distributes in all media throughout Scandinavia.

Smile’s acquisitions represent a wide variety of independent films from Alfonso Cuarón’s “Y TU MAMÁ TAMBIÉN”, Chen Kaige’s acclaimed “TOGETHER” and Andrey Zvyagintsev’s impressive debut film “THE RETURN” to Burr Steers “IGBY GOES DOWN”, Edward Burns’ “ASH WEDNESDAY” and John Malkovich’s director debut “DANCER UPSTAIRS”.

The future releases include ao. Wim Wenders’ “LAND OF PLENTY”, Shane Meadows’ “DEAD MAN’S SHOES” and Lajos Koltai’s “FATELESS”.

Smile Entertainment has strong relations to many of the world’s leading independent film companies and works closely together with companies like Lakeshore, Summit, Lions Gate, Moonstone and the children’s supplier Classic Media.

Through acquisitions and library representation Smile can present over 400 films, especially to Scandinavian television market. This makes Smile one of the leading local suppliers of feature films in the marketplace.

PRODUCER AND CO-PRODUCER

To date Smile’s co-productions include the romantic comedy ”HISTORY IS MADE AT NIGHT”, directed by Ilkka Jarvilaturi , starring Irene Jacob and Bill Pullman, ”DYKAREN” a.k.a. ”LUBIMAJA”, directed by Erik Gustavson, starring Stefan Sauk and Isabella Scorupco and the recent political thriller BALTIC STORM, directed by Reuben Leder, starring Greta Scacchi, Jürgen Prochnow and Donald Sutherland.

Currently Smile is involved in development and financing of several new projects, among them historic drama “THE FRENCH SURVEYOR” by Virke Lehtinen, based on authentic events, and the modern relationship drama “THE INNOCENTS” to be directed by Ilkka Jarvilaturi.
